Lake Travis Middle School Orchestra
6th Grade Orchestra
Beginning Orchestra introduces students to the fundamentals of making music together. Students learn to read music, develop responsibility and teamwork skills, set and achieve goals, and become stronger listeners—all while discovering the joy of playing music. No prior experience or audition is required to join.
7th & 8th Grade Orchestra
The 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra is designed for students with one or more years of string experience who are continuing to grow as musicians. In this program, students build on their skills by focusing on accurate intonation and rhythm, tone production, music analysis, and evaluation. They also develop proper concert etiquette—both as performers and as attentive, engaged audience members—while preparing for more advanced high school-level music.

ABOUT MS. MAY
​
Man May, Cellist, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Mariachi Teacher Certification from Texas State University in 2009. She began studying cello at the age of 8 through the University of Texas at Austin String Project and has since built an extensive and diverse performance career.
​
Highlights include performing with the Texas State Symphony Orchestra at the 2005 TMEA Convention, participating in “Juilliard Meets Texas State”—a side-by-side concert with Juilliard musicians under the direction of composer Wayne Oquin—and performing with the Texas State Symphonic Choir under Craig Hella Johnson of Conspirare.

Mrs. May previously served as Orchestra Director at Sul Ross Middle School in Northside ISD for four years, where her program achieved Sweepstakes recognition. During her tenure, the Sul Ross MS Orchestra was honored to receive a clinic and performance from Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble, represent Northside ISD at National PTA Founder’s Day, and perform as the feature orchestra for American Funds Holiday events. She also worked as an orchestra assistant with Mrs. Brenda Johnson at Dr. Hector Garcia Middle School.

A proud Lake Travis High School alumna (Class of 2004), Mrs. May is thrilled to be in LTISD as a teacher.
Outside of music, Mrs. May enjoys life with her husband James, their two children, dogs, fish, and a sugar glider.
