Lake Travis High School Orchestra
​
The Lake Travis High School (LTHS) Orchestra, directed by Ms. Anna Macias, is one of the most accomplished high school orchestra programs in the Austin area.
​
The program includes four ensembles—Concert, Intermezzo, Symphony, and Chamber—placement in which is determined by audition. Students also have the opportunity to join the Lake Travis Fiddlers, a western swing band that performs throughout Central Texas.
​
The Chamber Orchestra is the premier ensemble, featuring the program’s most advanced musicians. Members explore a variety of musical genres and demonstrate strong skills in rhythm, pitch recognition, sight-reading, theory, and ensemble performance.
​
Throughout the year, students perform in multiple concerts and participate in events such as UIL Solo and Ensemble, UIL Full Orchestra, UIL String Orchestra, TMEA Region auditions, and select festivals. The LTHS Orchestra has consistently earned Sweepstakes awards at UIL competitions.
​
Many students also achieve individual honors, including recognition as Texas Music Scholars by the Texas Music Educators Association.

ABOUT MS. MACIAS
​
Anna Macias has served as Director of Orchestras at Lake Travis High School since 1996 and as a conductor with the Austin Youth Orchestras since 2003. She has been an organizer for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) High School Region Orchestra since 1999 and currently serves as the TMEA Region 26 Orchestra Division Chair. Since 2002, Ms. Macias has also been on faculty at the Texas State University Strings Camp.
​
Her professional affiliations include TMEA, the Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA), the Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA), and Mu Omicron.
​
In addition to her public school work, Ms. Macias maintains a private double bass studio. She is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Music Education and has studied with Xuang Yuan Lu, David Neubert, and Howard Hudiburg. She has participated in master classes with Gary Karr and attended the Northwestern Bass Camp under Jeff Bradetich.

As a performer, Ms. Macias has appeared with the Balcones Orchestra, Mid-Texas Symphony, Abilene Symphony, and Brazos Valley Symphony, and currently plays with the Temple Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoys performing double bass in musical theater productions and has appeared in numerous popular shows across Austin over the past decade.
