Lake Travis High School Orchestra

nosferatu.jpg

The Lake Travis High School (LTHS) Orchestra program, under the direction of Ms. Anna Macias, is one of the most successful high school orchestras in the Austin area. The program consists of three orchestra sections—Concert, Symphony, and Chamber. Placement in each section is through an audition process. Students of all experience levels in grades 9 through 12 are welcome to participate in this program. Chamber Orchestra features the finest musicians in the LTHS orchestra program. Students in this section explore different genres of music and have advanced musicianship skills in counting, pitch recognition, and sight-reading, as well as theory and ensemble performing.

Students perform in concerts throughout the school year, as well as participate in UIL solo and ensemble, UIL full orchestra, UIL string orchestra, TMEA region events, and selected festivals. The LTHS orchestra has been consistently earning sweepstakes in the UIL string orchestra and the UIL full orchestra programs. Many of our students have earned the outstanding performance award at UIL solo and ensemble as well as earning superior ratings. Students of the LTHS orchestra program were honored as Texas Music Scholars by the Texas Music Educators Association. Several students participate in All-Region Orchestra and All-State Orchestra each year. Students also have the opportunity to join The Lake Travis Fiddlers, a western swing band that performs all over central Texas.
