Bee Cave Middle School Orchestra

6th Grade Orchestra
Beginning orchestra offers many skills to students such as learning to read music, learning to be dependable and accountable in a group situation, how to set and work towards a goal, how to be a better listener, and most importantly, the realization that music is meant to be enjoyed. No previous experience is necessary and you do not have to audition to join.

7th & 8th Grade Orchestra

The 7th / 8th grade program is open to students who have one or more years of string experience but are not ready to perform the more difficult music used in high school. Students will study techniques such as performing accurate intonation and rhythm, analyzing and evaluating music, producing a good tone, and exhibiting concert etiquette as informal, actively involved listeners during varied live performances.

Ms. Julia Perez

Orchestra Director

BEE Cave Middle School

Julia Perez was born and raised in northwest Houston in a very musical family. At a young age, Ms. Perez began taking piano lessons but soon fell in love with orchestra - more specifically, viola. After graduating from Tomball Memorial High School, she pursued an All-Level Music Education degree at Texas State University in San Marcos. During college, Ms. Perez performed with the Texas State University Viola Studio at the 2016 TMEA Convention under the direction of Dr. Ames Asbell, and toured Europe with the Texas State University Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Watson. Aside from performing, Ms. Perez worked as a Lead Teacher with the Texas State University String Project from 2015-2019 where she was awarded the Outstanding Senior in String Music Education. During her time at Texas State University, Ms. Perez was also teaching privately in her own studio as well as with the Music Retreat at Willow Creek in San Marcos and Curious Chords in Buda. She has worked with students of all ages ranging from beginners to advanced musicians. Ms. Perez is excited to be teaching in Lake Travis ISD because she was able to student teach at both Lake Travis High School and Serene Hills Elementary School, and has loved the district and students ever since.

When Ms. Perez is not teaching or performing, she can be found gardening, disc golfing, shopping, or camping. Ms. Perez currently teaches at Bee Cave Middle School in Lake Travis ISD and resides in South Austin with her fiance and dog, Stephen and Pepper.
